Sarvarov was the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
The committee indicated that one possible explanation suggests the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Location of the Blast
Teams have been sent to the site, which is said to be in a south district of the capital.
Reports state the detonation occurred in a vehicle lot close to a residential building.
History of Assaults
Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military officials have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This most recent event comes after other notable incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was lost his life in a car bomb attack in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a device concealed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a informant earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.
The conflict has increasingly seen covert operations extending into the streets of the Russian capital.
The investigation into General Sarvarov's death is still active.
