Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key changes:
- Every squad has just eight real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
