Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
