Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
