I beheld evil as assailant attempted to break into house of worship, rabbi describes
A spiritual leader has described the moment when a man attempted to barge into his city synagogue during a deadly attack, remarking "I observed evil, I observed animosity".
The spiritual leader explained that he and congregation members maintained the doors of the temple as Jihad Al-Shamie was "ramming the doors, throwing weighty flower containers, trying anything he could to get in".
Commending the fast-acting of those at the worship center, he remarked: "I observed true courage, I must admit, and individuals who rushed to help fellow members rather than fleeing. It was astonishing."
One victim, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, both died after the assailant hit people and attacked a person on the day of the incident.

When inquired if he saw himself as a brave person, he responded: "I'm not sure that is correct".
Nonetheless, a bystander at the location stated the cleric had been calm throughout as he and additional individuals guided the assembly to safety.
The loved ones of Mr Daulby has also paid tribute to their "brave individual" who died during "the act of valor to protect other people".
"The loved ones is surprised by the devastating, unexpected demise of such a kind down to earth person" the statement continued, as the relatives asked for privacy to process their loss.
