Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
